  • Identify barriers and enablers to integrating ECD practices into clinic activities.

Main Methods:

  • Mixed-method design utilizing clinical audit and staff interviews.
  • Included 176 children receiving primary health care at the ACCHS.
  • Conducted interviews with five ACCHS staff members.

Main Results:

  • Developmental enquiry was documented for 65% of eligible children.
  • Standardized ECD assessments were less frequent.
  • Barriers included lack of resources, staff education, time constraints, and unclear roles between services.

Conclusions:

  • Primary health care can enhance ECD support with adequate systems, training, and tools.
  • Lack of role clarity and poor inter-service communication risk missed ECD support opportunities.
