Reduced cortical complexity in patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy

Thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) patients show altered brain complexity. Fractal dimension (FD) analysis revealed decreased cortical complexity in specific brain regions, correlating with vision, cognition, and emotional deficits.

- FD values in the right caudal anterior cingulate cortex positively correlated with cognitive performance, and FD values in the right lingual gyrus negatively correlated with emotional function.

- Cortical complexity is disturbed in brain regions associated with vision, emotion, and cognition in TAO patients.
- Fractal dimension (FD) analysis may serve as a potential neuroimaging marker for the underlying neurobiological basis of TAO.
