Spinal extradural hemangioblastomas are rare tumors. Surgical resection offers clinical remission for brachial pain and weakness, especially when diagnosed preoperatively in patients with Von Hippel-Lindau disease.

Background:

  • Spinal cervical extradural and intra-extradural hemangioblastomas are exceptionally rare, with only nine cases previously reported.
  • This study addresses the diagnostic and surgical challenges associated with this rare spinal tumor entity.

Observation:

  • Two female patients, aged 80 and 25, presented with brachial pain and weakness.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a dumbbell-shaped intra-extraspinal hemangioblastoma in both patients.
  • One patient was diagnosed with Von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHLD).

Findings:

  • Posterior laminectomy enabled surgical resection of the hemangioblastomas.
  • Both patients experienced clinical remission of their symptoms following surgical excision.
