[Clinical efficacy and influencing factors of molar distalization with clear aligner]

Dental crowding is the most common malocclusion, and molar distalization possesses significant advantages in obtaining space, molar neutral relationship and avoiding invasive manipulation. The esthetic problem remains a major challenge for traditional molar distalization appliances. However, the advent of clear aligner technology has brought a new strategy for molar distalization. Accordingly, this review seeks to evaluate the clinical efficacy of molar distalization with clear aligners from the perspectives of three-dimensional control, displacement accuracy, anchorage protection and post treatment stability. Moreover, it aims to investigate the factors which affect the clinical efficacy with regard to material property of clear aligner, treatment planning and dentoskeletal characteristics and patient compliance, in order to provide guidance for the clinical application of the technique.
