[Development of Multimodal Intervention in Cancer Cachexia]

Cancer cachexia is a combination of metabolic abnormalities associated with malignancy and symptoms that interfere with eating behavior and physical activity, resulting in weight loss. A multimodal treatment proven to be safe and effective has yet to be established. However, with the approval of anamorelin hydrochloride, clinical studies are underway to combine pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment. It is important to build a multidisciplinary team that includes nutritionists, physiotherapists, physicians, nurses, and psychotherapists, each with a clearly defined role. This also requires education on cancer cachexia not only for healthcare professionals but also for patients and their families.
