Background:
- Tufted angioma is a benign vascular tumor characterized by immature endothelial and pericyte cell proliferation.
- Typically presenting on the trunk and extremities, it rarely occurs intracranially.
Observation:
- A 63-year-old male presented with a left frontal lobe mass detected via MRI.
- Annual MRI revealed slow tumor growth and progressive peritumoral edema over 8 years.
- The lesion was successfully treated with gross-total resection.
Findings:
- Histological analysis demonstrated a microvascular core with capillary aggregates.
- Immunohistochemistry confirmed vascular endothelial cells positive for CD34 and Brahma-related gene-1, with smooth muscle actin-positive pericytes.
- These features were consistent with intracranial tufted angioma.
Implications:
- Intracranial tufted angioma is an uncommon diagnosis that should be considered in the differential for brain tumors.
- Long-term follow-up is essential to understand the natural history of this rare condition.
