Summary

The James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital created the Post-Deployment Rehabilitation and Evaluation Program (PREP) for Special Operations Forces (SOF) and veterans. This successful program is now a model for expanding mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) rehabilitation nationwide.

Background:

Special Operations Forces (SOF) and veterans face unique chronic conditions.
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) requires specialized inpatient rehabilitation.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe the innovative Post-Deployment Rehabilitation and Evaluation Program (PREP) at James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital.
To highlight the interdisciplinary team approach in managing SOF and veteran rehabilitation.
To provide a model for expanding mTBI inpatient rehabilitation programs within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
