The General Dental Council emphasizes professionalism, yet its definition remains contested.
Lack of consensus exists regarding the precise meaning and practical implications of dental professionalism.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate practicing dentists' interpretations of professional character traits.
To understand how these traits are applied in real-world dental practice.

Main Methods:

A constructivist grounded theory approach was utilized.
Qualitative, in-depth interviews were conducted with dental professionals in England.
Data analysis involved constant comparison throughout the data collection process.

Main Results:

Dentists found commonly cited professionalism traits difficult to define and operationalize clinically.
Disagreement emerged regarding the interpretation of certain traits.
Participants questioned the direct relevance and applicability of listed traits in their current form.

Conclusions:
