Factorial Design02:01

Factorial Design

13.3K
Factorial Analysis is an experimental design that applies Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical procedures to examine a change in a dependent variable due to more than one independent variable, also known as factors. Changes in worker productivity can be reasoned, for example, to be influenced by salary and other conditions, such as skill level. One way to test this hypothesis is by categorizing salary into three levels (low, moderate, and high) and skills sets into two levels (entry level...

Correlations02:20

Correlations

33.8K
Correlation means that there is a relationship between two or more variables (such as ice cream consumption and crime), but this relationship does not necessarily imply cause and effect. When two variables are correlated, it simply means that as one variable changes, so does the other. We can measure correlation by calculating a statistic known as a correlation coefficient. A correlation coefficient is a number from -1 to +1 that indicates the strength and direction of the relationship between...

Spearman's Rank Correlation Test01:20

Spearman's Rank Correlation Test

993
Spearman's rank correlation test, also known as Spearman's rho, is a nonparametric method for assessing the strength and direction of association between two variables. This test is particularly valuable when the data distribution is unknown or when the assumption of normality does not hold. Named after the English psychologist and statistician Dr. Charles Edward Spearman, it serves as the nonparametric counterpart to Pearson's correlation coefficient.
Spearman's test calculates...

Factors Affecting Illness01:18

Factors Affecting Illness

4.4K
When a person's physical, emotional, intellectual, social development or spiritual functioning is compromised, this deviation from a healthy normal state is called illness. Illness creates stress that in turn harms individuals. Irritation, anger, denial, hopelessness, and fear are behavioral and emotional changes an individual experiences in the phases of illness. A variety of factors influence a person's health and well-being.
For instance, risk factors are connected to illness,...

Surveys02:16

Surveys

15.2K
Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Generally, the survey itself can be completed in a short time, and the ease of administering a survey makes it easy to collect data from a large number of people.

Group Design02:01

Group Design

9.5K
The most basic experimental design involves two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The two groups are designed to be the same except for one difference— experimental manipulation. The experimental group gets the experimental manipulation—that is, the treatment or variable being tested—and the control group does not. Since experimental manipulation is the only difference between the experimental and control groups, we can be sure that any differences between...

Summary

This study explored adolescent first aid willingness, finding that knowledge positively impacts willingness to help peers and strangers. Sports participation may also enhance first aid attitudes, warranting further investigation.

Area of Science:

  • Psychology
  • Sports Science
  • Public Health

Background:

  • Adolescent first aid attitudes are crucial for emergency response.
  • Understanding factors influencing willingness to provide first aid is vital for injury prevention.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine the factor structure of the First Aid Willingness Questionnaire in adolescents.
  • To investigate correlations between sociodemographic, sport-related variables, and first aid attitudes.
  • To identify key determinants of willingness to provide first aid among youth.

Main Methods:

  • Exploratory factor analysis of the First Aid Willingness Questionnaire.
  • Correlation analysis between questionnaire factors and sociodemographic/sport-related variables.
  • Study involved 413 adolescents (mean age 14.2 years).

Main Results:

  • A four-factor model emerged: willingness to help peers, willingness to help strangers, first aid knowledge, and negative emotions.
  • First aid knowledge positively correlated with all other factors.
  • Willingness to help peers strongly correlated with willingness to help strangers; negative emotions negatively correlated with helping strangers.
  • Sport participation showed a potential positive association with first aid willingness.

Conclusions:

  • Adolescent first aid willingness is multifaceted, influenced by knowledge, peer/stranger orientation, and emotional state.
  • First aid knowledge is a key positive predictor.
  • Further research is needed to clarify the role of sports in shaping first aid attitudes and behaviors.
