Compact circularly polarized (CP) antennas are vital for indoor wireless communication (IWC). This review analyzes planar broadband CP printed monopole and slot antennas for efficient IWC systems.
Area of Science:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electromagnetics
- Wireless Communication
Background:
- Indoor wireless communication (IWC) technology is rapidly evolving.
- Antennas are critical for IWC, with a need for compact and versatile designs due to space limitations.
- Circularly polarized (CP) antennas offer advantages over linearly polarized (LP) antennas in dense indoor environments by reducing losses.
Purpose of the Study:
- To review and analyze existing studies on indoor antennas, focusing on 3D nonplanar/waveguide and 2D planar designs.
- To highlight the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of previous indoor antenna research.
- To understand recent specifications of broadband CP printed monopole antennas (BCPPMAs) and broadband CP printed slot antennas (BCPPSAs) for optimal IWC system design.
Main Methods:
- Comprehensive literature review of indoor antenna technologies.
- Analysis of three-dimensional (nonplanar/waveguide) and two-dimensional (planar) indoor antenna designs.
- Comparative study of broadband CP printed monopole antennas (BCPPMAs) and broadband CP printed slot antennas (BCPPSAs).
Main Results:
- Identification of key trends and specifications in indoor antenna development.
- Evaluation of the performance trade-offs for different indoor antenna types.
- Summary of the strengths and weaknesses of BCPPMAs and BCPPSAs for IWC applications.
Conclusions:
- Compact, broad-application indoor antennas are highly preferred for IWC systems.
- BCPPMAs and BCPPSAs are common planar approaches for broadband CP indoor antennas.
- Further analysis is needed to determine the most suitable design for current IWC systems.
