  • A descriptive, cross-sectional, multicentre study was conducted nationwide in Spain, involving 85 ICUs.
  • A 66-item questionnaire, developed using the Delphi method and a 10-point Likert scale, assessed nurses' perceptions of competency requirements and training needs.
  • The study included a sample of 568 Spanish nurses.

Main Results:

  • Significant differences in the evaluation of training items were observed based on academic level, gender, hospital type, and professional experience (P < 0.05).
  • Nurses perceived the necessity of prior training and experience in other care services before commencing work in an ICU.
