Summary

Background:

Uterine cervix insufficiency (UCI) compromises fetal support during pregnancy.
Physical forces and prostaglandin (PG) release contribute to cervical changes in UCI.
Previous mid-trimester abortion is a recognized risk factor for UCI.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy of cervical cerclage in managing uterine cervix insufficiency.
To compare outcomes in patients with different presentations of cervical insufficiency.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of 246 cervical cerclage procedures performed over a 10-year period.
Categorization of patients based on cervical status (silent opening vs. open cervix due to contractions).

Main Results:

Previous mid-trimester abortion was confirmed as an indication for cerclage.
Patients with "silent opening" of the cervix demonstrated a five-fold improvement in outcomes compared to those with an open cervix due to contractions.
Cervical insufficiency leads to decreased fetal support capacity due to increasing fetal weight and biomechanical stress.
