    Summary

    Long-term lithium treatment impacts kidney tubular function, causing increased urine volume and reduced concentrating capacity. However, a 2-year follow-up showed no progressive decline in renal function for patients on lithium therapy.

    Background:

    • Lithium is a mood stabilizer for affective disorders.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To reexamine renal function in lithium-treated patients after a 2-year interval.
    • To assess for progressive impairment of glomerular and tubular function.
    • To compare renal function between lithium-treated patients and a control group.
