Summary

A novel 2 opposed periauricular flap technique offers a simple, single-stage solution for earlobe reconstruction. This method achieves excellent aesthetic results with proper volume and texture for large defects.

  • An initial composite graft resulted in total necrosis of the graft site.

  • A new technique, the 2 opposed periauricular dermal pedicled flap, was successfully employed.
  • This single-stage method involved elevating and suturing two caudally based periauricular flaps, providing adequate tissue for reconstruction.
  • The procedure resulted in no complications like flap congestion or hematoma, and achieved satisfactory aesthetic outcomes with natural earlobe texture and volume.

Implications:

  • The 2 opposed periauricular flap technique is a viable and effective option for reconstructing large, full-thickness earlobe defects.
  • This method simplifies the reconstructive process, avoids the need for skin grafts or debulking, and offers superior aesthetic results.
