Developing a professional-practice-model-based nursing organizational informatics competency model

Background:

• Nursing informatics development in China lags, creating an urgent need for a guiding clinical practice model.
• A framework is required for nursing managers to build organizational nursing informatics competency.

Purpose of the Study:

• To develop a nursing organizational informatics competency model based on the Professional Practice Model (PPM).
• To provide a reference for training in clinical nursing informatics within hospital settings.

Main Methods:

• A multidisciplinary hospital team, including nurses trained in the TIGER (Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform) model, developed a prototype.
• An exploration map was used for prototype development, followed by the Delphi method with external experts for finalization.
• Validity analysis confirmed the final model.

Main Results:

• The final model, developed through Delphi method with 12 experts, achieved a 100% return rate and high validity (92.46%-100%).
• The model comprises five categories: management strategy and leadership, organizational structure, environmental improvement, core competence cultivation, and project management.
• It includes 61 elements designed to enhance organizational nursing informatics competency.

Conclusions:

• The developed model offers a structured approach for hospital nursing managers.
