Direct Plantar Approach to Plantar Plate Repair and Associated Wound Complications

The direct plantar approach for plantar plate repair (PPR) in lesser toes is safe and effective, with low complication rates. Tobacco use was identified as a risk factor for wound complications and superficial infections.

- Tobacco use significantly increased the odds of any wound complication (OR 7.5) and superficial infection (OR 9.8).
