Properties of Organometallic Compounds01:23

Properties of Organometallic Compounds

1.1K
Organometallic compounds are compounds that contain a carbon–metal bond. Carbon belongs to an organyl group like alkyl, aryl, allyl, or benzyl groups. The metal can be from Group I or Group II of the periodic table, a transition metal, or a semimetal.

Area of Science:

  • Materials Science
  • Catalysis
  • Electrochemistry

Background:

  • Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) offer tunable structures for catalytic applications.
  • Developing efficient catalysts for methane oxidation and oxygen evolution reactions (OER) is crucial for energy conversion.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To design and synthesize novel COF composites with multimetal complexes.
  • To investigate the performance of these COFs in methane oxidation and electrocatalytic OER.
  • To explore the potential of bimetallic modification for enhanced catalytic activity.

Main Methods:

  • Coordination interaction between bipyridine groups and metal ions to form COF composites.
  • Synthesis of platinum (Pt) and polyoxometalate (POM)-loaded COF (POM-Pt@COF-TB).
  • Fabrication and testing of cobalt (Co)/iron (Fe)-based COF composites (Co/Fe@COF-TB) for OER.

Main Results:

  • POM-Pt@COF-TB composites showed excellent methane oxidation activity.
  • Optimized bimetallic Co0.75Fe0.25@COF-TB composites exhibited superior electrocatalytic OER performance with a low overpotential (331 mV at 10 mA cm⁻²).
  • Co0.75Fe0.25@COF-TB achieved a high turnover frequency (TOF) of 0.119 s⁻¹ at 330 mV, indicating efficient metal atom utilization.

Conclusions:

  • The study presents a new strategy for coordinating COFs with bimetallic or polymetallic ions.
  • The developed COF composites show great potential for applications in methane conversion and electrocatalytic oxygen evolution.
  • Bimetallic modification significantly enhances the catalytic activity of COFs for OER.
