Bidirectional causal associations between type 2 diabetes and COVID-19

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) causally increases the risk for severe COVID-19 outcomes, including hospitalization and critical illness. Conversely, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection liability may increase the risk for developing T2D.
