Hyponatremia in horses with septic pneumopathy

Hyponatremia, a common finding in horses with bacterial pneumonia, is linked to increased inflammation and longer hospital stays. This study characterizes hyponatremia in these cases and its association with inflammatory markers.

- A significant negative correlation was observed between plasma [Na] and both fibrinogen levels and rectal temperature.
Conclusions:
- Admission hyponatremia in horses with septic pneumopathy is associated with heightened systemic inflammation and SIRS.
- Hyponatremic horses experienced a longer duration of hospitalization compared to their normonatremic counterparts.
