Rous Sarcoma virus or RSV was discovered by F. Peyton Rous in the year 1911 as a filterable transmissible agent that could cause tumors in chickens. He won a Nobel Prize for this discovery in 1966. His experiments clearly demonstrated that some cancers could be caused by infectious agents and led to the discovery of many more cancer-causing viruses in animals as well as humans.

Background:

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare mesenchymal malignancy.
Kidney involvement is extremely uncommon.
This report focuses on a unique case in a 19-year-old female.

Observation:

Patient presented with right lumbar pain.
Initial CT revealed a large retroperitoneal mass (18 x 14 cm).
Subsequent evaluation identified a 9.6 x 7.1 cm right kidney mass.

Findings:

The patient received two cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
Surgical excision of the kidney mass was performed.
Complete recovery was achieved post-surgery.

Implications:

This case underscores the importance of considering rare diagnoses in clinical practice.
Successful management involved a multimodal approach including chemotherapy and surgery.
Further research into rare kidney malignancies is warranted.
