All-Internal Limb Lengthening with Simultaneous Corrective Osteotomy After Internal Hemipelvectomy: A Case Report.

A magnetic lengthening nail effectively corrected significant limb length discrepancy following internal hemipelvectomy. This surgical technique allowed for symmetric leg lengths and independent ambulation, even after a successful pregnancy.

- A 27-year-old patient was diagnosed with Grade II chondrosarcoma of the right acetabulum.
- The patient underwent a Type II internal hemipelvectomy with ischiofemoral fusion.

- Post-surgery, a 7.0 cm functional limb-length discrepancy with hip adduction was noted.
- The patient experienced a successful pregnancy 11 years after tumor resection.
Findings:
- A corrective osteotomy and limb lengthening using a magnetic lengthening nail were performed.
- The magnetic lengthening nail proved to be a viable option for limb length correction.
- Simultaneous corrective proximal femoral osteotomy was performed as needed.
Implications:
- Magnetic lengthening nails offer a successful solution for limb length discrepancies after hemipelvectomy.
- Restoration of symmetric leg lengths and independent ambulation is achievable.
- This approach supports functional recovery and improved quality of life in cancer survivors.
