Summary

Swallowing function in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients undergoing pharyngeal surgery shows temporary difficulty at 1 month, but normalizes by 6 months post-operation. Pre-existing swallowing issues in Phase 1 surgery patients improved over time.

  • Evaluating subjective swallowing function is crucial for patients undergoing pharyngeal reconstructive surgery.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess subjective swallowing function before and after multi-level reconstructive pharyngeal surgery for OSA.
  • To compare swallowing outcomes between different degrees of airway reconstruction.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10) scores in 100 adult OSA patients.
  • Data collected preoperatively and at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively.
  • Patients divided into Phase 1 (more extensive) and Mini-Phase 1 (less extensive) surgery groups.
