Evanescent Prostate Carcinoma, Case Report

Prostatic evanescent carcinoma, a rare prostate cancer variant, was identified in 2% of patients. Clinical factors and neoadjuvant hormone therapy may help predict this condition.

Background:
- Prostatic evanescent carcinoma is a rare variant of prostate cancer.
- Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy is a common treatment for prostate cancer.
Observation:
- This study reviewed 148 patients undergoing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy between January 2016 and December 2018.
- Three patients (2%) were diagnosed with prostatic evanescent carcinoma, all Gleason 6 (3+3).
- Two patients received neoadjuvant hormone therapy; one had minor tumor invasion in one biopsy core.
Findings:
- No residual tumor was found in any of the three cases post-surgery, classified as pT10.
- The incidence of prostatic evanescent carcinoma in this cohort was 2%.
Implications:
- Predictive factors for prostatic evanescent carcinoma include clinical status, PSA levels, biopsy core involvement, and invasion percentage.
- Neoadjuvant hormone therapy may play a role in managing or predicting this condition.
