  • A retrospective descriptive study was conducted.
  • Data from 125 patients undergoing colonoscopy between June 2017 and December 2019 were analyzed.
  • Indications, findings, age, and gender were extracted from the endoscopy unit register and analyzed using SPSS version 20.

  • Lower gastrointestinal bleeding (32%) was the most common indication for colonoscopy.
  • Suspected colonic tumors (29.6%) and hemorrhoids (14.4%) were other significant indications.
  • Hemorrhoids (40%), colonic tumors (20%), and colitis (16.8%) were the most frequent endoscopic findings.

Conclusions:

  • Colonoscopy is an effective procedure for diagnosing and managing colorectal diseases.
  • The study highlights lower gastrointestinal bleeding as the leading indication and hemorrhoids/colorectal tumors as the primary findings at ABUTH.
