Issues And Trends In Healthcare Delivery System

5.8K
The issues and trends in healthcare delivery are constantly changing. The COVID-19 pandemic is one recent issue that wreaked havoc on healthcare systems, causing a shortage of healthcare workers, high demand for medicines and supplies, and increased medical expenditure due to a lack of insurance. Other issues include rising healthcare costs and care fragmentation.

Principles of Disease Surveillance

172
Disease surveillance is the systematic collection, analysis, and interpretation of health data essential to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health practice. This process integrates data dissemination to entities responsible for preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability. Surveillance systems provide crucial information for action, helping public health authorities make informed decisions to manage and prevent outbreaks, ensure public safety, optimize...

Steps in Outbreak Investigation01:18

Steps in Outbreak Investigation

171
In the ever-evolving field of public health, statistical analysis serves as a cornerstone for understanding and managing disease outbreaks. By leveraging various statistical tools, health professionals can predict potential outbreaks, analyze ongoing situations, and devise effective responses to mitigate impact. For that to happen, there are a few possible stages of the analysis:

Area of Science:

  • Public Health Technology
  • Infectious Disease Control
  • Epidemiology

Background:

  • The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated technological advancements to augment human resources in public health surveillance.
  • Initial surges highlighted the need for efficient and effective case investigation and contact tracing (CI/CT) strategies.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To co-design and assess the impact of four technology solutions aimed at expanding CI/CT team capacity.
  • Evaluate the reduction in CI/CT time intervals and improvement in workflow efficiency.

Main Methods:

  • Development of four integrated technology solutions: Epi Viaduct, Epi Contacts, Epi Locator, and Epi Viewpoint.
  • Assessment using product data and user feedback to measure impact on CI/CT processes.

Main Results:

  • Epi Viaduct drastically reduced data transfer times (from hours to minutes) and duplicate result removal.
  • Epi Contacts increased contact elicitation efficacy, with significant participation rates.
  • Epi Locator facilitated efficient information retrieval, with 75% of searches yielding matches.

Conclusions:

  • Developed systems effectively supported large-scale contact tracing during the pandemic.
  • These adaptable CI/CT technologies can be applied to control other communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted infections.
