Post-polypectomy electrocoagulation syndrome (PPES) can lead to complications like colo-colonic intussusception. This case demonstrates that PPES-associated intussusception can be successfully treated conservatively with antibiotics and fasting.
Area of Science:
- Gastroenterology
- Colorectal Surgery
- Medical Imaging
Background:
- Post-polypectomy electrocoagulation syndrome (PPES) is a known complication of colonoscopic polypectomy.
- While typically managed conservatively, PPES can occasionally lead to serious complications.
- This case highlights a rare but significant complication of PPES.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease V: Surgical Management
Here are some common surgical interventions for IBD:
Endoscopic Procedures II: Colonoscopy
Inflammatory Bowel Disease I: Ulcerative Colitis
Inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD, encompasses a group of disorders characterized by chronic inflammation or ulceration of the gastrointestinal tract.
Risk Factors
The exact cause of IBD remains unclear, although it is believed to be due to a mix of genetic, environmental, microbial, and immune factors. Genetic factors are significant in determining susceptibility to IBD, with family history being a critical risk factor. Individuals with a first-degree relative who has IBD are at...

Sigmoidoscopy
Sigmoidoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that uses a flexible sigmoidoscope equipped with a light source and camera to examine the rectum and sigmoid colon. The procedure involves inserting the tube through the anus...

Radionuclide Testing
Radionuclide testing is a sophisticated medical technique for assessing gastrointestinal motility. It focuses on gastric emptying and colonic transit time. Radioactive markers track the movement of food through the digestive system, providing insights into gastrointestinal disorders.
In gastric emptying studies, a meal's liquid and...
