Narcissism and Depression: The End of a Myth

Narcissism represents a pathological picture that is still much debated. A brief historical excursus of the narcissistic disorder is proposed, as well as of the distinction between a depressive reaction and a depressive syndrome, which in turn describes depressive symptoms of the affective type and an anhedonic type of depressive symptoms. The author wonders if it is then possible to find a type of depressive symptomatology in pathological narcissism and what is the prevailing dimension and above all its genesis and evolution. Depressive symptomatology of an anhedonic and non-affective type is considered in pathological narcissists to represent the path towards the end of the person, who experiences the nemesis of the Myth.
