Electron-doping RbH with strontium enhances superconductivity. This research explores metallized alkali-metal hydrides, showing increased critical temperatures without applied pressure.
Area of Science:
- Materials Science
- Condensed Matter Physics
- Solid-State Chemistry
Background:
- Alkali-metal hydrides are promising for superconductivity but often require high pressure.
- Metallization via electron-doping offers an alternative route to achieving superconductivity.
Purpose of the Study:
- To systematically analyze the superconducting properties of electron-doped RbH (Rb1-xSr_xH).
- To investigate the impact of strontium content on electron-phonon coupling and critical temperature.
- To explore superconductivity in metal hydrides without external pressure.
Main Methods:
- Density Functional Perturbation Theory
- Migdal-Eliashberg theory
- Quasi-harmonic approximation for zero-point energy effects
Main Results:
- Superconducting critical temperature (Tc) and electron-phonon coupling (λ) increase with strontium content.
- Achieved Tc values of 51.3 K (or 66.1 K with μ*=0) and λ = 1.92.
- Metallization observed due to increased density of states at the Fermi level and softened phonon modes (H-optical).
Conclusions:
- Electron-doping is an effective strategy for enhancing superconductivity in metal hydrides.
- Rb1-xSr_xH presents a promising material for high-temperature superconductivity without pressure.
- Further research into electron-doped hydrides could lead to new superconducting materials.
