Recent literature synthesis on their development, implementation, and evaluation is lacking.

Purpose of the Study:

To synthesize available literature on the development, implementation, and evaluation of Professional Practice Models.
To identify key elements and best practices for creating effective Professional Practice Models.

Main Methods:

Systematic review of English language papers published between 2015 and 2022.
Inclusion criteria applied to fourteen selected studies.

Main Results:

Professional Practice Models are vital for aligning nursing activities and organizational values.
Strong leadership and clinical nurse engagement are critical for successful development, implementation, and evaluation.
Models require adaptation to remain current with scientific changes in nursing.

Conclusions:

This review contributes to the understanding of Professional Practice Model lifecycle.
Key elements include a theoretical foundation and six core components.
