Background:

  • A 77-year-old female patient presented with dissatisfaction with her existing removable dentures.
  • The patient exhibited a reduced vertical dimension, leading to pseudo-Class III malocclusion and angular cheilitis.

Findings:

  • Strategic placement of dental implants under RPDs transformed them into implant-tissue or implant-tooth-tissue supported prostheses.
  • Maxillary RPD was supported by mini-implants, while the mandibular overdenture utilized standard implants.
  • Significant improvements in retention, stability, support, eating, speaking, appearance, and cleanability were noted.

Implications:

  • Strategic implant integration offers a viable solution for improving RPD performance and patient satisfaction.
  • This approach enhances oral health-related quality of life, with lasting positive effects.
