Area of Science:

  • Child Health Assessment
  • Psychometrics
  • Behavioral Science

Background:

  • Network analysis is increasingly used in psychometrics.
  • Its application in child health, specifically feeding behaviors, remains underexplored.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To apply network psychometrics to the Chinese Preschoolers' Caregivers' Feeding Behavior Scale (CPCFBS).
  • To examine and compare the network structure of the CPCFBS.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized Gaussian Graphical Model and Exploratory Graph Analysis (EGA) on data from 768 caregivers.
  • Assessed network structural consistency using EGA bootstrap.
  • Compared the network structure with the original scale structure.

Main Results:

  • A seven-dimensional EGA network was identified after scale refinement.
  • The EGA structure demonstrated superior model fit compared to the original structure.
  • Reliability of the EGA structure was comparable to the original scale.

Conclusions:

  • Network analysis is applicable and advantageous for analyzing feeding behavior scales.
  • This study provides a novel analytical strategy for child feeding behavior research.
