Calcific constrictive pericarditis in pregnancy. A case report.

Background:

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a complex clinical syndrome.
Constrictive pericarditis is a form of heart disease characterized by thickening and stiffening of the pericardium.
Calcific constrictive pericarditis involves calcium deposits in the pericardium, restricting diastolic filling.

Observation:

A postpartum woman presented with symptoms of congestive heart failure following an uncomplicated delivery.
Diagnostic evaluation revealed calcific constrictive pericarditis as the underlying cause of her heart failure.

Findings:

The patient's heart failure was directly attributed to the restrictive physiology imposed by calcific constrictive pericarditis.
Successful surgical intervention with pericardiectomy was performed.

This case highlights a rare but serious complication of congestive heart failure in the postpartum period.
Early diagnosis and surgical management of calcific constrictive pericarditis are crucial for improving patient outcomes.
