1M. Thomas (Tom) Quail has been an EMT for over 47 years, an RN for 39 years, and an LNC for 20 years. After 20 years of service, He retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health, where he was the clinical coordinator for the Office of Emergency Medical Services and conducted research at the Bureau of Environmental Health. He also assisted in the development of the first state Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Registry. Tom continues to give educational lectures for nurses and EMTs in pre-hospital emergency medicine, forensics, and toxicology.
Veterinary drugs like xylazine and tiletamine-zolazepam are increasingly detected in toxicology and postmortem analyses, particularly in the Northeastern US. This article addresses their effects and treatment strategies.
