Secondary hydronephrosis to polyarteritis nodosa.

Summary

A rare case of secondary hydronephrosis caused by polyarteritis nodosa affecting the ureter is presented. This study highlights an unusual presentation of vasculitis involving the ureteral surrounding tissue, leading to functional stenosis.

Background:

Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a systemic necrotizing vasculitis affecting medium and small arteries.
PAN commonly impacts kidneys, heart, and gastrointestinal tract, but ureteral involvement is rare.

Observation:

This case details secondary hydronephrosis due to PAN lesions in a ureteral segment.
Associated findings include sclerolipomatosis, periureteritis, and functional ureteral stenosis.

Findings:

The study presents a unique instance of PAN manifesting as ureteral obstruction.
Periureteritis and sclerolipomatosis in the ureteral vicinity are infrequent manifestations of PAN.

Implications:

This case expands the understanding of PAN's potential urological manifestations.
