Abstract:
This overview stresses why it is important to avoid the effect of masking and presents a model of the mechanism of circadian synchronization based on circadian changes of nonspecific responsiveness to various zeitgeber qualities. The significance of phase responses, transitory uncoupling, frequency multiplication, and flattening of circadian functions is considered. Even circadian adaptation undergoes a circaseptan reactive periodicity.
