  • To assess ED in relation to eosinophilic inflammation, lung function, and asthma control.

  • Compared 52 young asthmatics with 45 healthy controls.
  • Measured microvascular responsiveness using the reactive hyperemia index (RHI) via EndoPAT2000.
  • Assessed inflammatory markers: VCAM-1, ADMA, hsCRP, and E-selectin.

  • Asthmatics exhibited significantly lower RHI values and higher hsCRP levels compared to controls.
  • A decreasing RHI trend and increasing hsCRP and E-selectin levels were observed with increasing asthma severity.
  • Higher body mass index (BMI) was noted in asthmatics, particularly in women and those with severe asthma.

Conclusions:

  • Asthma is associated with progressing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and worsening endothelial dysfunction (ED).
