Post-traumatic Stress Disorder01:27

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

87
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric condition that arises following exposure to traumatic events such as natural disasters, forced displacement, or severe accidents. It significantly impairs individuals' ability to cope with daily activities and disrupts their emotional and psychological equilibrium.
Symptoms and Behavioral Manifestations
A spectrum of distressing symptoms characterizes PTSD. Recurrent flashbacks, where individuals involuntarily relive traumatic events,...

Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Trauma Surgery
  • Simulation Technology

Background:

  • Trauma injuries represent a significant global health burden and leading cause of mortality.
  • Effective trauma management education is essential for improving patient outcomes.
  • Simulation-based training offers a promising approach to enhance trauma care skills.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To critically review and summarize current practices in simulation-based trauma management training.
  • To identify gaps and areas for future development in trauma simulation education.
  • To provide an overview of achievements in the field since 2010.

Main Methods:

  • A comprehensive literature search was conducted on the Web of Science database.
  • 1617 publications on simulation-based trauma training from 2010 onwards were identified.
  • 35 articles were selected for in-depth analysis, extracting data on training populations, simulation methods, skills, evaluation, and context.

Main Results:

  • High-fidelity mannequins were the predominant simulation method, focusing on technical skills over non-technical skills.
  • Few studies targeted students, and automated evaluation processes were largely absent, with checklists and questionnaires being common.
  • Trauma training predominantly occurred in hospital settings, with less emphasis on pre-hospital environments.

Conclusions:

  • There is a need to enhance evaluation methodologies in trauma simulation training.
  • Expanding trauma training to undergraduate education is a critical area for development.
  • Further research should focus on improving the scope and accessibility of simulation-based trauma education.
