Background:

Pericarditis is commonly caused by viral infections.
Cardiac involvement in monkeypox virus infection is not well-documented.
Understanding the spectrum of monkeypox complications is crucial.

Observation:

A rare case of pericarditis with mild pericardial effusion is presented.
The patient was an immunocompetent adult with a one-week history of monkeypox.
This case occurred during the recent global monkeypox pandemic.

Findings:

Monkeypox virus infection was associated with pericarditis and pericardial effusion.
Standard pericarditis treatment, including NSAIDs and colchicine, was effective.
Symptomatic improvement and resolution of effusion occurred within two weeks.

Implications:

This case expands the known clinical manifestations of monkeypox virus.
It highlights the potential for cardiac complications, such as pericarditis, following monkeypox infection.
Further research is warranted to investigate the incidence and mechanisms of monkeypox-associated cardiac conditions.
