Background:

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted global health practices, including infant feeding.
Uncertainty arose regarding breastfeeding safety for newborns born to mothers with COVID-19 or suspected infection.
Limited awareness and information created confusion surrounding breastfeeding and postnatal care during the pandemic.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine supporting data and correct procedures for breastfeeding newborns during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To provide clarity on breastfeeding practices for mothers affected by COVID-19.
To address the confusion and challenges faced by mothers regarding infant feeding during the pandemic.

Main Methods:

Literature search conducted on PubMed and Web of Science.
Inclusion of data from World Health Organization (WHO) and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) websites.
Review of articles published between March 2020 and March 2022.

Main Results:

Significant changes observed in hospital policies, including restricted visitation.
Varied maternal approaches to breastfeeding, with some adopting strict septic care and others opting for artificial feeds.
WHO guidelines emphasize breastfeeding with appropriate septic care.

Conclusions:

Despite WHO recommendations, a gap existed in implementing correct breastfeeding measures due to pandemic-related disruptions and miscommunication.
This article offers insights into the breastfeeding scenario for COVID-19-positive or suspected mothers.
Adherence to septic care is crucial for safe breastfeeding during infectious disease outbreaks.
