This article details a rare case of male urethral diverticulum, a condition causing post-void dribbling. Surgical repair successfully excised the diverticulum and restored urethral continuity.
Area of Science:
- Urology
- Surgical Innovation
Background:
- Male urethral diverticulum is a rare congenital or acquired condition.
- Post-void dribbling is a common symptom that can indicate various lower urinary tract issues.
Observation:
- A 34-year-old male presented with post-void dribbling.
- Diagnostic imaging (retrograde cystogram) and cystoscopy revealed a 3 cm penile urethral diverticulum.
- No coexisting urethral stricture was identified.
Findings:
- The patient underwent open surgical repair to excise the urethral diverticulum.
- Urethral continuity was successfully restored.
- The surgical repair was reinforced using corpus spongiosum and dartos fascia.
Implications:
- This case highlights a successful surgical approach for managing male urethral diverticulum.
- Reinforcement techniques using local tissues can improve repair outcomes.
- Further research into optimal surgical techniques for urethral diverticula is warranted.

Urethra
The anatomy of the urethra differs between males and females. In females, the urethra is short, measuring about 3–4 cm in length, and opens anterior to the vaginal opening. In males, the urethra is longer and passes through the penis, serving dual purposes: expelling urine and ejaculating semen. The male...
