Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the technical feasibility and acceptability of integrating video conferencing into daily work rounds for pediatric residents and attending physicians.
  • To evaluate the impact of virtual rounds on efficiency, educational experience, and engagement.
  • To identify factors associated with participant engagement in virtual rounds.

  • A cross-sectional survey-based study was conducted with pediatric residents and attending physicians participating in both bedside and virtual rounds.
  • Participant experiences were assessed using Likert-type questions focusing on technical issues, efficiency, educational value, and engagement.
  • Statistical analyses were performed to measure associations between technical aspects, perceptions, and self-reported engagement.

Main Results:

  • Technical issues occurred in 29% of encounters, with low-quality tablet stands being a common cause.
  • Virtual rounding had minimal negative impact on efficiency (6% of responses).

  • Virtual rounds present a valuable, sustainable model for medical education beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.
