Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of case-based e-learning (CBEL) on nursing students' academic performance.
  • To assess the effectiveness of CBEL in enhancing nursing students' problem-solving abilities.

Main Methods:

  • A pre- and post-test design was employed with 128 nursing students.
  • Participants completed a problem-solving inventory and an academic performance test before and after the CBEL intervention.
  • Paired t-tests and Chi-square tests were used for data analysis.

Main Results:

  • Significant improvements were observed in students' academic performance scores post-intervention (P < 0.001).
  • While scores for problem-solving confidence, approach-avoidance style, and personal control changed, the overall academic and problem-solving outcomes were positive.
  • The intervention led to a decrease in specific problem-solving style scores but an increase in overall academic achievement.

Conclusions:

  • Case-based e-learning (CBEL) positively influences nursing students' academic performance and problem-solving capabilities.
  • CBEL is a viable educational strategy for training nurses to better handle future clinical situations.
  • Integrating CBEL can enhance nursing education and prepare graduates for complex healthcare environments.
