Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching III: Evaluation and Documentation01:20

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching III: Evaluation and Documentation

1.8K
Evaluation of the teaching process enables the nurse to determine if the patient's learning needs were met and if training was effective. If the expected outcomes are not met, the care plan is revised, and additional education or reinforcement is provided. Nurses can ask questions after the session or obtain feedback to assess the patient's understanding of the topic.
Nurses can use several methods to evaluate patient outcomes. For example, oral questions can assess cognitive learning,...

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation I: Adult

38
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, is a life-saving emergency procedure performed when a person's heart has stopped beating or they are no longer breathing. The foundation of CPR is Basic Life Support (BLS), which focuses on the early recognition of cardiac arrest, the immediate start of high-quality chest compressions, and the timely use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).Assessing Responsiveness and Checking the Carotid PulseWhen approaching an unresponsive person, first ensure...

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

3.4K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

5.2K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis

1.6K
The nursing process provides a clinical decision-making framework for patients and families to establish and implement a personalized care plan. Since part of the nurse's duties is to teach patients, the steps of the nursing process are the most effective way to approach instruction. The nursing process and the teaching-learning process are inextricably linked.
It is critical to determine the patient's learning needs during the assessment. Determination of learning needs compounds data...

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation V: Advanced Airway Management Techniques

44
Airway management is essential in emergency and surgical medicine, ensuring ventilation and oxygenation in patients who cannot maintain their own airway. Clinicians use a range of techniques and devices to secure the airway, depending on the patient’s condition and the clinical context. Key methods include endotracheal intubation, rapid sequence intubation (RSI), supraglottic airway devices, and advanced visualization aids. In cases where these approaches fail, surgical airway...

Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Neonatal Care
  • Simulation Training

Background:

  • The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is a national standard for newborn resuscitation education.
  • Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) identified four key areas for improvement in their NRP skills training: team consistency, skills order, educational content variability, and instructor role.
  • A complete restructuring of the skills education component was implemented in March 2019 to address these issues.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of redesigned NRP skills education on learner satisfaction.
  • To compare learner experiences with the new educational format versus the previous one.

Main Methods:

  • The skills education was redesigned based on situated cognition principles, involving leadership planning and consensus.
  • Key changes included: assigning teams from the start, ordering skills stations chronologically, utilizing standardized video education, and shifting instructor roles to 'coaches'.
  • A survey was emailed to 196 learners from the first 13 classes using the new format, with 163 (83% response rate) completing it.

Main Results:

  • Out of 163 respondents, 109 had experienced the previous format and compared the two.
  • 93% of learners (n=101) rated the new NRP format as 'better' or 'much better'.
  • Significant improvements were attributed to: team assignments (70%), skills in order (74%), video education (68%), and instructors as coaches (76%). Videos received high ratings.

Conclusions:

  • The restructured NRP skills education significantly enhanced the learning experience at TCH.
  • The shift towards instructors acting as coaches, rather than traditional teachers, was the most highly-rated change.
