Atrial fibrillation begets ventricular fibrillation when the AV node fails

Atrial fibrillation can cause rapid ventricular tachycardia even without pre-excitation. This can lead to recurrent implantable cardioverter defibrillator therapy in young patients with idiopathic ventricular fibrillation.
