Insights

Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), an autoimmune vasculitis, can be difficult to diagnose. Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-18 FDG-PET/CT) aided in diagnosing MPA in a patient with prolonged fever and non-specific symptoms.

Area of Science:

  • Immunology
  • Radiology
  • Nephrology

Background:

  • Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) is a rare autoimmune vasculitis.
  • MPA diagnosis is often delayed due to diverse and non-specific clinical presentations.
  • Prolonged fever without localizing signs can be a challenging initial symptom.
