  • Rats were fed a 30% galactose diet or given streptozotocin to induce diabetes.
  • Kidney function was assessed by urine volume, creatinine clearance, and albumin excretion.
  • Kidney structure and biochemical markers (galactitol, sorbitol, glycosylated hemoglobin) were analyzed.

  • Galactose-fed rats showed significant increases in urine volume, creatinine clearance, urinary albumin, N-acetyl glucosaminidase, and kidney weight, mirroring diabetic changes.
