Abstract

Insights

MS14®, a natural product, improved physical activity and walking speed in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients. This study suggests MS14® is a safe supplementary treatment for MS, with no serious adverse effects observed.

Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Integrative Medicine
  • Pharmacology

Background:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a progressive neurological disorder with significant global impact.
  • MS complications often impair patients' quality of life and physical function.
  • MS14®, a natural product derived from Persian medicine, has shown promise in managing MS symptoms.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of MS14® in improving physical activity in patients with Multiple Sclerosis.
  • To assess the safety profile of MS14® as a supplementary treatment for MS.

Main Methods:

  • A triple-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted involving 80 MS patients.
  • Participants received either MS14® capsules or a placebo three times daily for three weeks.
  • Physical activity was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), alongside measures like the timed 10m walk, Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Ashworth scale, and Timed Get up and Go.

Main Results:

  • Significant improvements in general physical activity (p=0.047) and the timed 10m walk index (p=0.003) were observed in the MS14® group compared to placebo.
  • No serious adverse effects were reported during the study period.
  • The study demonstrated a positive impact of MS14® on specific physical function markers in MS patients.

Conclusions:

  • MS14® appears to be a safe natural product for managing physical activity in Multiple Sclerosis patients.
  • The observed improvements in physical activity indices suggest MS14® could serve as a beneficial adjunctive therapy.
  • Further large-scale clinical trials are recommended to confirm the efficacy and long-term benefits of MS14® in MS management.
