Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis01:24

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis

1.6K
The nursing process provides a clinical decision-making framework for patients and families to establish and implement a personalized care plan. Since part of the nurse's duties is to teach patients, the steps of the nursing process are the most effective way to approach instruction. The nursing process and the teaching-learning process are inextricably linked.
It is critical to determine the patient's learning needs during the assessment. Determination of learning needs compounds data...

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching II: Planning and Implementation

1.3K
Planning for learning involves the development of a teaching plan. Teaching plans are similar to nursing care plans—both follow the steps of the nursing process. Planning in the teaching process involves setting goals and outcomes. Here, goals identify what a patient needs to achieve to understand a healthcare topic better, whereas the outcomes are the action to be performed by the patient to achieve the goal within a timeframe. For example, if the goal is to educate the patient about...

Fundamentals of Nursing Process II

3.6K
There are several characteristics related to delivering nursing care. One vital characteristic of the nursing process is that it can be used to protect nurses and justify the provided care. Productive use of the nursing process requires the knowledge and skills of nurses to assess and solve issues. Nurses should develop and strengthen their critical thinking skills and evidence-based nursing interventions to improve their skills in formulating nursing care plans. A well-defined approach to...

Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

5.2K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Nursing Pedagogy
  • Educational Technology

Background:

  • Medical Nursing is a core nursing education course.
  • Traditional teaching methods have limitations.
  • The flipped classroom model offers potential improvements.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To explore the effect of a flipped classroom teaching mode.
  • To combine a small private online course (SPOC) with problem-based learning (PBL).
  • To evaluate the impact on nursing students' abilities and academic achievement.

Main Methods:

  • Comparison between a control group (traditional lectures) and an experimental group (SPOC + PBL flipped classroom).
  • Nursing undergraduates from 2018 (control) and 2019 (experimental) cohorts participated.
  • Evaluation included teaching mode recognition, critical thinking assessment, and academic performance.

Main Results:

  • Experimental group showed higher recognition for improved learning interest, autonomous learning, communication, cooperation, clinical thinking, and self-achievement.
  • The experimental group scored higher in analytical ability on the Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory.
  • Excellent rates for theoretical examinations and case analysis were significantly higher in the experimental group.

Conclusions:

  • The SPOC + PBL flipped classroom model effectively promotes autonomous learning, collaboration, and critical thinking in nursing students.
  • This teaching mode enhances academic performance and is well-received by students.
  • Further optimization and evaluation are needed for broader application in nursing education.
