The inert two Higgs doublet model explains the W-boson anomaly using dark matter (DM). Reanalyzing antiproton and gamma-ray data, this study finds consistent DM properties, suggesting a common origin for these cosmic excesses.
Area of Science:
- Particle Physics
- Cosmology
- Astrophysics
Background:
- A W-boson mass anomaly suggests new physics beyond the Standard Model.
- The inert two Higgs doublet model (i2HDM) is a simple dark matter (DM) candidate.
- Previous studies noted excesses in antiproton and gamma-ray data potentially linked to DM
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the i2HDM as an explanation for the W-boson mass anomaly.
- To reanalyze AMS-02 antiproton and Fermi-LAT gamma-ray data for DM signals.
- To determine if DM properties are consistent across the W-boson anomaly and cosmic ray excesses.
Main Methods:
- Utilized a charge-sign-dependent solar modulation model for antiproton data analysis.
- Employed spatial template fitting and a data-driven spectral template analysis for gamma-ray data.
- Constrained DM particle mass and cross-section based on observed excesses.
Main Results:
- The antiproton excess is more distinct with the novel solar modulation model.
- DM annihilation via WW* or bb-bar channels requires DM mass of ~40-80 GeV.
- Gamma-ray excess analysis yielded DM parameters consistent with antiproton results.
Conclusions:
- The i2HDM provides a consistent explanation for the W-boson mass anomaly.
- The GeV antiproton and gamma-ray excesses are potentially explained by DM annihilation within the i2HDM.
- A common origin for the W-boson anomaly and cosmic ray excesses is suggested by the consistent DM properties.
