    Summary

We developed a Yb-doped fiber laser using a novel all-fiber beam shaper. This device enables switchable output between fundamental (LP01) and second-order (LP11) modes, including cylindrical vector beams.

    Area of Science:

    • Optics and Photonics
    • Laser Physics
    • Fiber Optics

    Background:

    • Fiber lasers offer versatile light sources.
    • Controlling laser beam modes is crucial for applications.
    • Existing beam shaping methods can be complex.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To propose a Yb-doped fiber laser with an integrated all-fiber beam shaper.
    • To demonstrate switchable mode output using a novel fiber structure.
    • To achieve high-purity cylindrical vector beams.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilizing a single-mode-graded-index multimode-few-mode fiber (SMF-GIMF-FMF) structure.
    • Continuously adjusting mode excitation coefficients via GIMF length.
    • Performing numerical simulations to analyze beam shaping dynamics.
    • Integrating the beam shaper within the laser cavity.

    Main Results:

    • Achieved switchable output between fundamental (LP01) and second-order (LP11) transverse modes.
    • Demonstrated the generation of cylindrical vector beams by removing LP11 mode degeneracy.
    • Verified beam shaping dynamics through numerical simulations.

    Conclusions:

    • The proposed SMF-GIMF-FMF structure acts as an effective all-fiber beam shaper.
    • This approach simplifies laser cavity design for mode control.
    • The laser system provides versatile output modes, including high-purity cylindrical vector beams.
